Man Forever (NYC)

Mounds (MI)

Two epic drummers from two epic bands bring their new epic sounds to our town

John Colpitts (aka Kid Millions) is a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and writer who is perhaps best known as the drummer for Oneida. Man Forever, his vehicle for exploring the outer limits of drum performance, was created to overwhelm, to investigate the nuances that bloom in the midst of repetitive music, and to act as a pure sound experience.

Kid will be touring with a few musicians, but will fill out the Man Forever lineup with local musicians at each tour stop. Past performances have included Brian Chase (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs), James McNew (Yo La Tengo), Chris Baio (Vampire Weekend), Richard Hoffman (Sightings) and many others.

Based on two drummers playing single stroke rolls on a single drum and the patterns that emerge from that, Man Forever is propulsive without a pulse. The repetitive rolls create a phasing effect, a music in and of itself, and the dynamic shifts that occur when the other instruments (bass, guitar, and organ) enter become not mere notes, but grand events.

Mounds is a duo helmed by Tom Hohmann (USAISAMONSTER, Black Elf Speaks, (from)The Sky, etc). Tom plays drums, sings, and plays a floor synth with his left foot. DJ plays synth. Awesome angular rock that walks some hypnotic line between prog, The Doors, Native American history, The Incredible String Band, and Terry Riley.
